Become a potholer and dig up valuable minerals and buy upgrades.

If you lose health enough you'll lose 100 coins and will be teleported to surface.

E (near people)

Examples:

To dig down

Press and hold S and Keypad Enter for 1.5 seconds (this time will decrease when you buy upgrades) 

To dig sideways or up do the same but hold down other move direction button.
